Simon’s legal practice is focused on Labour & Employment, Construction and general civil litigation.

Within his practice of employment law, he advises both employers and employees on a wide spectrum of matters. This encompasses day-to-day HR issues, crafting bespoke employment contracts and handbooks, Union-Employer disputes, conducting domestic enquiries, disciplinary & dismissal actions, inquiries before the Director General of Labour, and navigating Industrial Court actions.

In the 2023 Edition (Asia Pacific) of the Legal500 publication, he has earned recognition as a “Recommended Lawyer” in category of Labour & Employment.

Simon is equally proficient in the arena of construction law. He regularly assists clients at different stages of the construction process, starting from pre-construction consultation to post-construction dispute resolution. Throughout his practice, he was involved in construction projects relating to highways, MRTs, power plants, shopping complexes, condominiums, factories and residential houses.

His experience in conducting proceedings extends to various forums, including the arbitrations, adjudications (CIPAA), civil courts, industrial courts and private mediations.

He has been an accredited mediator by the Malaysian Mediation Centre (MMC) since 2018.

He is also the legal advisor for Guangxi Association of Malaysia.

Notable Cases & Transactions

  • Assisted entities from the medical, electrical & electronics, hospitality and manufacturing sectors in collective bargaining and collective agreement disputes.
  • Defended a reputable retail outlet against more than 100 claims for unfair dismissals.
  • Succeeded in the Court of Appeal and Industrial Court in obtaining a Court Award of more than RM 1 million for a group of hotel employees.
  • Succeeded in the Court of Appeal in obtaining a judgment sum in excess of RM 1 million for a General Manager who was unfairly dismissed.
  • Represented aggrieved employees in cases for constructive dismissals.
  • Advised a group of contractors on payments disputes in a highway construction in the Klang Valley.
  • Advised a public utility company in the construction of a power plant in East Malaysia.
  • Represented a contractor in recovering a sum of more than RM 1.5 million from the construction of MRT.
  • Acted for a contractor in arbitration for disputed works relating to the construction of a luxurious bungalow for a claimed sum exceeding RM 1 million.
